| Horse Description |
|
**This horse needs to go to a Northern State. He is
Anhidrosis - doesn't sweat. My vet says that a lot of
them will be normal in northern climates, just that the
extreme heat messes with their system. His price
reflects this issue, but is still negotiable to the right
home. I may even deliver him, depending on the
offered price or other negotiations. ** He would make
a great all around horse for a older teen or adult. This
horse is great on trails, alert but not spooky, loves
water, etc. He's got barrel racing experience and has
been thru a Martha Josey 3 day barrel clinic. He has
run and won some cash in 2D and 3D with his previous
owner - he and I had been steadily getting better as
we worked to get to know eachother, but we hadn't
placed in the $$ yet. I have no doubt that he could be
a high 2D to 1D horse, he just needs some more time.
He's essentially only been on barrels about a year and
a half. I'd seen video of a couple of his runs, he was
doing 16.3's in larger arenas. He is also an awesome
poles horse - for his size, he ducks in and out of those
things like a pro and has won some $$ there, too, for
his previous owner. He has excellent potential for
dressage and jumping. We actually start morning
dressage lessons soon - he already leg yeilds, bends,
shoulder/haunch in/out, etc. May take a couple of
jumping lessons in the future, too, to see how he takes
to it. He wants to please. He's very well mannered
and easy to handle. Loads himself into trailers... step
or ramp. Great for the vet and farrier. Current on hoof
care and shots. On Strongid Daily Dewormer. Hope to
have his teeth floated soon. Stands tied/cross tied.
Stands to be clipped. Good for baths. Just a big guy
with a teddy bear personality - but he has definitely got
some get up and go to him, too! He rides well in a
twisted snaffle for barrels. Ride him in a smooth snaffle
for dressage work. He runs barrels much better with a
tie down than without. I love this horse and could
probably manage the Anhidrosis down here, but it
would be a challenge for training and competing in the
summer and he'd need to live in a stall - which he'd
prefer to be out but can't handle the extreme heat
even just standing outside in shade. I've only had him
since May 2008 and was unaware of his issue as they
don't generally do a sweat test in a prepurchase. He
was raced and then bought off the track 2 years ago -
so I'm his 3rd owner. Apparently neither of his other
two owners ever knew of his condition. I found out
after a very hot weekend of barrel racing. I did not
have problems with his condition until it started getting
over 95 degrees - which it was pretty much around 100
or better for two straight months. He is on supplements
to try to help, but my Vet feels it would be best for him
to go north. I hope the right person sees this ad. This
is a great horse with something to manage - but at
least it isn't lameness! If he sounds like the horse for
you and you live in a cooler state, please don't pass
him by just because of the non-sweater status. The
barrel racing photo was taken August 2nd in Glen
Rose, TX.
